Tanks (180 gal) been up for 7 months with a clean up crew added right after it finished cycling. I only used RO/DI water from the start. It now appears that all my Turbo and Astrea snails are starving as they are no algea growing in the tank. I can only assume the water quality is good enough to prevent algea growth and that is why the snails have nothing to eat.

Is this possible or am I missing something? Previous tank was a 125 and the snails population exploded as I could not stop the algea growth.

I killed 10 great turbo snails by adding setting up a phosphate removal system. No algae=no food=dead snails. I'm starting to think that snails should only be added to an established tank. This was a mistake I made after Ike. In an established tank, there's always something to munch on.
