So what's up with the shimmer??? (1 Viewer)

Everybody seems obsessed with metal halide and the shimmer... why? I just like my corals I don't necessarily need the shimmer or even care about it but everybody else seems obsessed about it. Is it just me ? Am I crazy or what?

I don't know, but I think it looks beautiful. I like metal halide shimmer, but I'll settle for led shimmer.

Well maybe not obsessed but when comparing T5's to LED's to metal halides people always bring up on the shimmer effect and I just don't get it.

Case and point I went to Next Wave this past weekend and as a selling point for the Kessel lights he said, "See you get the shimmering just like Mh's" I just didn't know if it was a personal preference or something else... And thought maybe someone could explain it to me.

Its a personal thing... kind of like tank color temperature. some like 10k some 14k some 20k..

Well this hobby is about reproducing the natural sea enviroment as much as possible, that's why there's " sea salt with major trace elements" , wavemakers" " moonlight effect"
24hr lighting cycle etc. etc. well mh produces shimmer, and it looks natural. Led's are still on the fence for some people, but once you mention shimmer, people can put two and two together and believe its gotta be something special in leds just like MH. and there is.

Just like when you look at the bottom of the ocean floor in the caribbean (where the water is actually clear, not like glaveston)
or the bottom of a pool. Gotta lubs the shimmer.
