Hey all,
So I moved to Houston about 4 yrs ago from Northern California, and no I am not a hippie :p . I have loved fish keeping and going to aquariums all my life. I spent my younger years back home during the summer in Monterey going to the aquarium and learning as much as I could. I have also studied a lot about marine and freshwater life. So when I moved to Houston which is one of the largest cities in the country I was saddened to learn that we didn’t have a large world class aquarium. So since then I have been doing some sleuthing and I currently may have some finical backers interested in a project of this scale, but I wanted to see what the response to the local community would be.

Here are a few key points that would help push this project though.

1. A world class educational aquarium would be beneficial to the marine biology field here in TX
2. It would add and attract more tourism to our city
3. It would help drive business at our LFS as people would visit and want to have a piece of the aquarium in their homes.
4. It could function like many other aquariums in the world where there are a large percent of volunteer’s vs staff keeping overhead low.

Ect……

Anyways I personally think it would be a great addition to our city and the fish community as a whole. Please chime in with your thoughts.

Ok sure

Tenelen, I think you posted in the appropriate place. We don't have a forum section for "I want to build a World-Class tourist aquarium" sub-forum. You can click edit, go advanced, and retitle your post, if you wish.

Hey, I'm glad you have found some financial backers, and I wish you all the luck. I'll happily check out a new aquarium.

I just go to Andy's house.
LOL!

A "real" aquarium would be cool.
But in some sense you would be competing with Moody Gardens and the Downtown Aquarium.
Those are nice, but more of a tease of what could really be.
I think it would really have to be a kick-butt aquarium, a-la the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, one of the best in the country.
