So I'm setting up a 180 this weekend (merry christmas to me) and am planning my livestock. This will be an SPS dominant tank. Current livestock that will move over include an occ clown and his yellow gigantea and a PJ cardinal.

I would love to add a harem of lyretail, bartletts or pink square anthias but am concerned about my ability to keep them properly fed. Seems like everything I read says they need to be fed several times a day. Anyone successfully keeping anthias that only feeds once per day? What are you feeding them and how heavily? Any other things I need to consider?

I'm also looking at a collection of wrasses (solon fairy, carpenters) either as an alternative to the anthias or in addition.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Not in a hurry to stock up but sure could use some advice before I pull the trigger on fish purchase.

Hi, bevoboy.
I have 3 sunburst anthia's and I feed once a day in the morning. I feed a home made mix and they readily take it. Three times a week I feed frozen mysis in the evening. The anthia's are doing fine.

But keep in mind, I did not add them to the tank until it was a year and a half old and the fuge was producing tons and tons of pods.

good luck,
Steve

bugman keeps them, send him a pm.
they are very hard to keep, and diff ones have diff needs. water temp plays a big role in my opinion, study where your intended fish purchase comes from, are they deep water (cold)
I had a tiger queen for months and just lost it yesterday, not sure why, I was feeding it 2-3 times per day then started doing it once per day, not sure if that did it. did nothing else diff.

my 2 other fishes are fine. how about doing a wrasse tank instead. i was thinking of doing this until i realized that i had a sixline in both my systems. he will harrass them from what i read. still researching this.

Hey Bevoboy! They are really not that bad to keep! Just be careful who there tankmates are! If they eat well no problem. Certain wrasses seem to not like anthias. I learned the hard way! All of mine were doing great! I brought home my mystery wrasse and powder blue from work and they killed a bunch of my anthias. They really ticked me off!

Thanks for the responses guys.

Bugman - see any problems with stocking some bartletts or lyretails with solon fairys or carpenters?

I had a dispar anthia for a while, dropped him on the floor but still survived after I put him back in the tank.
Unfortunately, he passed away while I was doing a tank transfer. My anthia was pretty hardy. Only fed him once a day with frozen brine shrimps.

I don't see any problem! Add the anthias first or make sure they are larger than the wrasses. lyretails will fight back! Bevo you won't know til you try. Everybody's experience with them is different.
