is anyone using crushed coral for the substaight in a reef tank? Or is is just wrong to not go with LS even if the refugium has LS?
Snails have trouble getting across the crushed coral rubble and fall over.

You'll find that those who use a substrate will tend to opt for sand.

you can get a larger size sand. The fine sand gets blown around everywhere and gets everywhere, I dislike the fine sand.

Hi, jimR.
The problem with crushed coral is that it turns into a detritis trap and will fuel all kinds of algae and cyano problems. I prefer the fine sand, 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm in size.

Good luck,
