I was wondering if anyone had a favorite computer case fan they are using for their canopy? I'd like to get on for my DIY canopy and want a reliable one that is quiet and pushes a decent amount of air.

I don't have a specific recommendation for a fan, but you should definatley check www.newegg.com. They have a huge selection, and I've always found them to have the cheapest prices on computer hardware. I know Thermaltake is a good brand of fan. They have one with a blue led which, to me, is a little silly for a computer but it might work out well mounted over an aquarium. When you read the fan descriptions, it includes cfm (cubic feet per minute) of air that the fans move.

I'm using a 4" fan. I believe it came from an HP server. My cousin gave it to me :D

I would have to look at what kind mine is, but that is definitely a good one saying it cools the tank down to much.

Head to Radio Shack and buy computer fans and the AC adapter they have for them... they work very well.

Do take your time buying the AC adapter and only buy one that will drive the number of fans you have... the little sales guy at my Radio Shack tried to sell me a power supply that would run ten fans and it was 4x the cost of the one I really needed.

My biggest concern would be the noise (or db) rating.

Lots of the little 12v (PC fans) I looked at don't provide that info...

I found some Orion fans that are 110v and low noise.

I went to EPO, picked out several fans that were the right size, (I think 3.5"). Then went up to the front counter where they tested each one. I picked up 6 of the ones that seemed to be the quietest. 2 converters, 6 fans, 6 grill covers, cost me approx $60.

there's that computer place off of beltway8 & harwin called Directron that has fans for good prices. i got one with a thermistor so the fan varies speed depending on temperature. I got the largest one they had which i think is 120mm. it's pretty quiet.
