CS,

am not a big fan of the return in the fuge because you will get macro algae stuck in your return pump all the time, you return pump should be in an area of relative cleanliness like the sump.

The return will be in the compartment with the skimmer and then run over a divider into the fug. Not trying to correct you. Just dont want to cause any more confusion. This is one of the biggest reasons to have a prefilter/micron sock on the drain coming into the sump/fug. It keeps the tank free and clear of alot of junk. The only downside it replacing them about once a week. My thoughts are..... so what and I have three socks to rotate in and out. Seems to be a very small hassle for such a good impact on my tank. I again speak from experience on this one.Everybody that I know or tanks that I have set up have one and have only heard good comments.

Also when doing massive research on sumps, I never heard about micro algae to be an issue with this style but I am new so what do I know.

Ok I will make sure that the crossover pipe is at water level... I understand the reason for that.

Also txfatcat I agree that of the other tanks I have seen that do really well have socks and I WILL be incorporating that. Great suggestion I think!

But I do have a question:

Right now my skimmer (PM) is installed out side of the sump next to my stand. it is on a stool of sorts off the floor. I bought the set up from a guy and just set it up just like he had it. so my question is when I put it IN the sump How will I know how high to have the water? Is there a place to find that info?

I looked and didnt see the model skimmer. i see that its a PM but need more info. I dont have any experience with them but someone here sure does.

Let us know more infor and if you can how old this unit is and we will go from there.

hehe... I know its a skimmer but almost rather take on a class on quantum physics or brain surgery than try to guess which one that may be.

I will make the observation that it does look like you have some good dark skimate.

maybe someone can identify or help identify this model??

Sorry, when I bought it the guy did not tell me what model it is. He just let me know that it would handle what I needed and I had room to grow. Sorry I guess I should have asked for the model #. I will have to look at it and see if it is anywhere on it. I have had it for a year but I have no idea how long the other guy had it.

I emailed PM the pic and asked if they can identify it. Mike said "Hi Dixie. This is a CV626. Great protein skimmer! Attached are the instructions." So I should be all set on that mystery. lol

I don't know that the fuge needs that much flow. I have a 40" tall stand and actually plan to run my fuge with a separate tank that has an overflow into the sump and a return from the sump of its own. That way I can have a separate and specific flow rate for the fuge. I used to have my fuge in the same water path as the tank return and skimmer - that was too much flow. But, my skimmer was a beckett that required a ton of flow of its own.

I think my brain is now leaking out of my ear after reading that. You really need to work on your grammar or at least some punctation.

Anyway.. I am following this thread because eventually I will upgrade to a 180 and have been thinking of sump sizes/designs.

Oh I thought it was because of the NiagraFalls Vacation link you posted. My mistake.

Well after getting the skimmer instructions I find that the guy I bought it from didn't have it quite plumbed right to utilize what ir was made for... so there will de some redesign there. Also starting to think that maybe the one sump tank and just have the return in the middle might be the easiest route.... Well see still reading and researching.
