Well Pam and I went collecting today. We went to the little marsh that the Marshians visited on their collecting trip several weeks ago and gathered quite a few ghost shrimp...but where was all the algae?...Then to the beach and went through a bunch of sargassum washing up on shore but only got a few sargassum shrimp...what is the secret to catching stuff in the sargassum? In the stuff, under the stuff, near the shore, out in the water? After lots of scooping and very few shrimp, we decided to move on and went to the Texas City Dike and got quite a few porcelain crabs but where are the pods? Are pods not an all the time thing? They were everywhere last time we were there...Pam caught a couple of little anglers....tiny, tiny and so cute but neither one of us had a place that we felt like they would definitely make it so we let them go....And she got 2 pipe fish!!! Fun day with cuts, cuts and then there were a few cuts and bruises and that dang sunburn....but where are the pods??? :-(

fishies

me and a friend went to the west end of the island at San Louis Pass about two weeks ago. We were actually there just to o fishing but the sea weed was so thick we couldn't and we ended up collecting all day. We ran a 10ft. seine net into the current between the first two sand bars in about 4 1/2 to 5 feet of water. Together we ended up catching 150 - 200 puffers anywhere from 1/8 th. inch to about an inch long, a gobie, and about ten pipefish from 3 in. to almost 8 in. I'll try to get some pictures and post them up, there are some other fish and little creatures that we caught, but I'm not sure what they are called.

I found the perfect spot for pipefish, so if you need any let me know. I'm willing to let them go. :D

TOMMY T! tellin the secret spots!

You forgot to mention the other stuff we caught. The triple tails, and it wasn't a goby, it was a blenny. Me and Lea went this past weekend (I tried getting ahold of you, but hard without you having a cell phone), anyways, I went back again. To surfside this time and did pretty good. Caught about 100 sergeant majors, 15 filefish, triple tails from 3 mm up to 1 3/4 inches, pipefish, an angler, juvenile red snapper, juvenile lane snapper, juvenile jack(not sure what kind), juvenile pompano, a few puffers, some sargassum shrimp, sargassum crabs, and a few decorator crabs. The pipefish were only about 3 inches this time. Not 7 like before. And the only ones I kept were the non game fish, but only Tommy and Laura are allowed to see.

I had more luck this time with the big dip net, just walking out to the second gut and scooping it up fast. There was too much sargassum and current for the sein net. I started making 15 foot circles around Lea.

This time was a ruined fishng trip too. I didn't even attempt to kayak any baits out. The blue water was really close, just too much sargassum. But made the best of it.

How is Laura's tank doing now? I put 16 pounds of liverock in mine while I was in town, but left a small filefish and puffer in there to clean any remaining dead stuff off of it.

Back to work/looking around on the internet....
