im sure all of you know that if you dont have much surface adgiation you end up with a protein buildup on the surface, and on my 10 gal i used a surface skimmer attatched to the whisper 20 i had, but now that i am using a whisper 60, that has a double filter cartrige spot on my 20, the surface skimmer isnt an option...

but today i had the idea of hooking the surface skimmer up to my power head, would this offer any benefit to me what-so-ever? i have one of the nano protien skimmers that i am still trying to figure out how to fit into one of the chambers in the whisper 60, but untill then i am protein skimmer-less.

any suggestions on how to keep the surface scum away? if this surface skimmer attatched to the powerhead is a good idea or if it is just wasting space.

My daughter is having the same problem in her 30 gal nano.

It would work nicely when you want to do a water change...you can hook a piece of tubing to your powerhead and then use the surface skimmer to remove the water from the surface of the tank. Using it regularly will keep the surface of your water looking better instead of filmy. Not sure if it will have much benefit other than that though. I guess it will provide extra nutrients into the water column for the bacteria etc. to utilize.

See if an AquaClear surface skimmer attachment would fit onto the Whisper. We've got an AquaClear power filter on the 30g, and of course the skimmer attachment was made to fit it, but you might be able to make a mod to fit the Whisper if it doesn't just slip on. There's always duct tape. J/K
