I have been shutting my main pump off for feeding. Does anyone know if shutting the pump off and on everyday will shorten the life of the pump?

I don't think just once a day will significantly shorten the live of the pump. I don't turn mine off I just close down the valve I have on the discharge to slow it way down. I tend to forget to turn it back on if I turn it all the way off.
