Ok finally got home with the new tank and rounded up the neighbors to help bring it in!

Here is take two of my build. I let hubby choose the location this time because he promised to make water changes easy and build a book shelf around it. I won't hold my breath on that last part [emoji12]

Nice upgrade! Location of the tank is great for viewing and enjoyment.

thanks! LR but I need to clean everything. Was pretty nasty when I picked it up. Rocks are covered in all kinds of algae. Not sure how to proceed there actually.

Plumbing was all hard plumbed and designed for the previous sump so, I have to start over with that. Ordering parts now for that. Hopefully ill get to fill it up in another few days. Believe me it's killing me not being able to just start it up.

I think by now with all the money Iv spent on the last one and this one I coulda just bought a brand new one and had it already going by now [emoji24] ah well. It'll be worth it🤞🏻

In like pool acid? Then rinse with salt water?

Yes pool acid but then rinse with hoes. Just to be safe dip it in ro di water for a few days and then you can place in tank.

I just acid washed 200/lbs of dry pukani rock.

Sure - here's what I did and there are many other methods. The only thing that you got to watch for is the water/acid ratio and the amount of time you leave the rock in the acid.

Here's what I did:

1-Filled out a tote with 40/g of tap water - add rocks

2-Placed a cheap pump in the tote for circulation (turn "ON" only after acid is added).

3-I added 2 full gallons of acid to the tote.

4-Let the rock soak for 15-20 minutes - and inspect rock if there is still algae let it soak in the acid for another 10-15 minutes. It all depends on how dirty is the rock. Mine was all white and pretty but all the gunk/dead organic that came out of it was unbelievable.

5-To neutralize the acid, add baking soda (buy the cheapest kind) to the acid and once the fizzing stops the acid has been neutralized.

6-Drain the water from tote (I did this process by our pool drain so it was much easier and my tote had a gate valve) - If you are doing it in the drive way you will see lots of white residue.

I have a good video but I could not upload here- shoot me a PM with your number and I can send it to you.

Thank you! So basically the same method as cleaning pool filters haha

Algae is some stubborn sh*t [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

If I were I would increase acid concentration and soak for a shorter time.

Already soaked it in two gallons of acid per 35gal of water. Soaked it for over an hr. Neutralized it and sprayed it all off. Still a ton of crap on them. Filled the barrel back up [emoji19]

That trash can is large. Usually I buy those little plastic 15 gallon totes and soak the rock in acid for about 30 minutes. I just did 100lbs of LR the other week. I'm going to do another acid bath this weekend even though the rocks are all white from the first soak. I also rinse with a hose and let them sit in the sun for a few days. Check the % of muriatic acid on the bottle.

I had some similar issues when I tried to clean some of the algae laden rock I had prior to putting it in the tank. I tried acid soaking it but it while it bubbled up and removed some, most like yours was unscathed. So I let it bake in the sun for a week (this week will be perfect for this as it's near 100 all week) to dry it out then I hit it lightly with a pressure washer to remove the really heavy deposits. Then I acid soaked it again and this time it removed nearly everything. When it was done soaking the rock was a nice clean white and had very little odor.
