What's your tank's New Year Resolutions? I always think this is a fun exercise and also a good way to look back and laugh that only 1 thing out of 5 happened when 2019 comes around the following year.

Let's hear it folks.

New year new corals ( in the middle of the year), build a canopy i want my eel back, do my wc on time, get new big tank started, get old small tank sold once empty. I guess this next one is associated with fish tanks get my fish tank YouTube channel to 500 subs! And that’s about it!

Happy reefing!

I think its going to be a much simpler year this year for me since the whole first year was just recuperating from a move.

1) Finish my tank cabinet so I can finally reveal it. Mainly patching, sanding, and painting.

2) Organize all my wires... It breaks like 30 electrical codes currently and at least 4 common sense codes.

3) Install the new sump.

4) Glue corals down... They are just thrown up there currently in random spots.

5) Setup my ATO reservoir and float valves and go automatic again.

6) Add my last 3-5 fish and shutdown the QT.

7) Host a meeting at the house.

There, its in writing. Now everyone can remind me next year of all the things I didn't accomplish and how I failed.

Oh boy, good question!

Upgrade the 92 to a 180 would be first on my list. I hope to be able to pick up the new tank in a couple of weeks and hope I can get the swap out done pretty quickly! Thanks to Christmas...I already have most of the additional equipmemt I wanted to go along with the upgrade so Id have to add those in there as well like the ATO, Screen Top, Cabinet Underlights, UV Sterilizer, Add'l T5's...

Finally finish the canopy on the new 60cube.

Clean out my adopted fish room and let the hubby have his bar room back.

Re-purpose one of our oversize closets to my new hobby-purpose area.

And fish.....want more fish!!!

1. Figure out why my tank is a highly efficient Acropora-killing machine, even though it has Montipora and Pavona growing wild. I sent off a Triton test last week, so that may yield some clues. The ultimate goal is to some day be worthy of one of your corals, Ty.

2. Get my refugium and doser online, which could help with number 1 above.

3. Stretch goal: get the two big tanks fully stocked with fish, then do something cool with the 90g cube that I'm currently using as a QT.

My corals have been battle tested Frank. I put them through hell during and after the move. They'll survive a zombie apocalypse.

Parameters have been stable? What's are your guesses as to why acros don't survive in the tank?

Yeah, parameters have been pretty stable, the common ones I test for. I'm hoping the Triton test will reveal that I'm terribly low in potassium or something fairly easy like that. One problem could be the flow is less than most SPS tanks - the challenge of trying to make both LPS and SPS happy.

It could be that I'm just a weird reefer. In my previous reef tank, I killed every Montipora I tried, but did fairly well with Acropora. Now it's the opposite, and I'm not sure the reason in either case.

To never ever take a shroom for granted, no matter how indestructible they may be. Had my first loss of 50+ collection. Now I test every single parameter daily and can probably switch to acro.

I solemnly swear to finish taking out the crushed gravel bit by bit with every partial water change. I will also continue to try and get my nitrates down naturally.

Mine is to never buy anything from my local pet store again. Too many issues to trust them again. Saltwater that wasn't, a diseased fish that I caught in QT, live rock with neomeris annulata algae that has now overrun my tank.

I will drive to Dennis at FJW or Jamal at That Aquarium Place to buy anything even though they are an hour away. I will also beg them both to open up a store on this side of town every time I visit.

Dang that's a long list but definitely doable.

Do it old friend!!!!

My list is actually pretty short:

1-Organize the wiring in the fish closet

2-Hook up the APEX
3-Learn fish language :lol_hitting:

I actually thought that was pretty reasonable for a year long span... I must be much more of a busy body than I think I am. [emoji4]

I'm curious about your Triton test when you get it in. I run one annually to monitor trends and always like to see other's results as well. Keep us posted!

Regarding flow, I've seen fast flow and slow flow for SPS and the main difference I saw was growth form. Both seem sustainable for keeping SPS alive so I'd be surprised if its the sole reason but perhaps contributes to a larger issue that makes it inhospitable for SPS. Or lastly like you said, it could just be because you're a weird reefer. [emoji13]

My goal is to stay in the hobby! Lol. Short term goal would be to avoid a tank crash. Let these sps fill the rocks a bit. Likely have a move coming up this year and my tank isn’t the nicest ( from a glass and wood standpoint). We will likely have to do a short term rental while a home is built if we are able to go that route. In which case I will be selling everything off and being tankless for a while till we can get into a forever house...which in that case means.... new tank build!

My new years resolution is to just chill with my tank. I've been running sps in small tanks my entire career. I get things stable for a while, things are looking great, get busy at work for four days, and it hits the fan. I have a temporary 60 gallon while I set up my 130 and it's cake. What a difference the extra volume makes. With 250 gallons of volume plumbed into a 130 and a fish room? I'm gonna be on coast mode.
