Well apparently I did something to upset the gods. Today my 3yr old son learned how to open the "child proof" cleaning cabinet while I was 3hrs away. While everyone was asleep my son woke up and put two gallons of "natures miracle" and about a pint of raid into my sump. Lets just say that every single thing that I loved about that tank was nuked. My wife may have managed to save a bubble, a torch and few mushrooms. I never thought this would happen don't let it happen to you! I've had a lot of these fish for 3 or more years. I may need pre-mixed water tomorrow so if anyone is close to the Tomball area I would appreciate the help with the water thanks Zack

Well the tank has been shut down everything and has been removed. Yes, at 3:38 in the morning. I guess i'll get the DR(DEAD rock) going with freshwater and vinegar in hopes of ridding the chemicals. Threw away 94lbs of DEAD sand a minute ago. Good news is all four hermit crabs that I had survived, go figure. I will let this tank sit for a few weeks with RO and vinegar and rinse/scrub a time or two and put it up for sale(maybe $300 for stand, canopy, and tank) 90gallon RR. Anyways that's not why I posted this. Just wanted to update/vent.

Yes I believe so but not until December sometime. The next stand will be child impenetrable I'm talking locks and chains! Well the tank is now in the garage and the wife and I have triple rinsed the corals that may survive. In all there are about 12 that MAY pull through the bubble looking the best followed by the mushrooms. Luckily I had 10 gallons on hand that became my temp. Tank. Now to clean all the equipment that was in the sump then..... sleep.

That s a horrible experience to go through.
Feel sorry for your tank crash I really do, as we'll experience some kind of hiccup small or large.
Every hobbyist/parents nightmare that a kid get a hold on chemicals as such.
I would not worry about as a first prevention putting chains on your new stand but more about the security on how kids get a hold on chemicals as you mention.
I can't judge about the child proof security you had set up but should chemicals like that be in the house.
Not accusing anybody here just my $0.02
Sorry if this comes over kind of rude but bless the our Lord he chooses to target your tank and not him self.

We are glad the kid is okay man forget the corals. That's dangerous stuff. Corals can be replaced.

Yeah I don't leave any of that stuff inside the house...I have a 2 year old and he's always looking for trouble. :)

Wow, sorry to hear that. A bad hurtle but at least you can recover. Be glad that at that at least it's minimum. My 1year old tries to reset my regulator all the time. Dang fingers. Think of it like this, another chance to build a new reef? Just trying to give positive words.

Of course my son not being harmed by the Raid is something that immediately went through my mind. My wife and I talked over how lucky we are many times. Even though it wasn't stated in my original post, it is just a given that we are and feel fortunate.

Those chemicals are never kept in the house but unfortunately this bottle was brought in and absent mindedly put up, and got left in the back of the child proofed cabinet. We don't use ammonia or any other popular cleaning products but still keep the natural cleaners locked up.

You never know your child proofing doesn't/isn't working until your child gets past it. Many parents aren't as fortunate as we were. When looking at the bigger picture, take the tank any day.

The comment I made about locks and chains was an exaggeration (well maybe not - would be a good backup), but still has really made me aware about child proofing the aquarium as well. It was something that he never messed with. It is frightening because of all the cords in the stand. Another way we are lucky again that he wasn't shocked or worse. So yes, the stand will be child proofed as well for his safety.
