do you remember when you were at my house, do you remember hearing noise from my tank, outside of the skimmers hummmm? i have straight drains, they do make noise after coming from a power out and are adjusting themselves, basically getting the air out.
but after that it's good, if you want you could use flex hosing and put a little curve in yours or a 90. it all comes down to air and water mixture, plus you are not pushing too much flow through your system.

by the way, that guy (uncle) gets a lot of respect on that site, i still don't think everything that comes out of his mouth is right, but not to the point that i would argue with him.
as for me, i will only tell you thing from my own experience, not the webs, but keep in mind; what will work for me may not work for you.

I have been to your house and your tank was quiet... I have decided I am not going to worry about it unless there is a problem with it. I will just do the best I can and hope thats enough... if its not well... thats a different story

I use a couple of these on my tanks, love them!

here is another source here in houston

this one is a 8 switch 19inch rack mount. $18 bucks.

Thank you for this! I dont need 20 outlets, 16 would work just fine. You just saved me 160$!! The other ones are just what I was able to find... now I wont have to wait to get them!

The tank has water in it and at the moment its really really blue lol. I have all the plumbing done so I was running a test with food coloring to see how it would go and I found one small leak so far. I am not sure if this is because I pulled on it or if its because I just didnt seal it properly the first time but either way I have to deal with it. The other problem (maybe) I found is the noise coming from the durso pipe gurgles from the air flow. I havent put the cap on the top as I still need to drill a hole in the top to determine if that will fix it or if I will have to make a U in the pipe. I dont really have the room in the sump so I am hoping the cap with drilled hole will fix the gurgle.

If all this goes well then I will drain, add sand and rock, then start the cycle.

I drilled the hole but it did nothing for the gurgle so instead I put a type of U in the pipe going into the sump and put the end of the pipe just a little above the water line and this helped a GREAT deal.

I hit a snag on my lighting but that wont stop me from being able to cycle my tank. I will be draining the blue water from my tank and filling it with saltwater later today or tomorrow so that I can start the process. With luck I should be ready in a few weeks/months. I still need sand though so I need to get that lol. I guess I should get that in there too lol.

After a few set backs I kind of put the tank on pause. I just didnt want to deal with it. Now I am back to it and have ordered the sand and am working on my aqua scape.

I have a few pieces planned out but I want something TALL since my tank is 24 inches high. My husband will help me with drilling and I have ordered some (rock paste??) from Macro Rock so that I can put the pieces together. My limit will be the width of the tank which is a pita. Its only 12 inches wide.

I have sand will be here next week along with the Dr. Tims One and Only so I could go ahead and transfer my fish over.

Fish I have are...

1 Male Golden Rhomboidalis Wrasse
1 Female Rhomboidalis
3 Dispar Anthias 1 male 2 females
2 Purple Firefish
1 Gold Assessor
2 Picasso Clownfish (temporary inhabitant) they will be moved to my old octopus tank.

My water had been fine until I added the clowns and now it wants to creep up. I have the lights off most of the time because other wise hair algae becomes a problem and I dont want to transfer any to the new tank.

I still have to finish setting up the water changing system. I have it mostly set up but I havent drilled the hole in the side of the trashcan (waste water collection) so that I can empty it weekly.

I still have some odds and ends to order. Things like alarms for high water etc.

Our German Shepherd pup will be born in a few months so in order to be able to do training classes and work on obedience I will have to be done with this build so it doesnt get pushed back again.

Wish me luck, cause this laundry list of things left to do is a bit much still.

I wouldn't put all those fish in at once with Dr. Tims. I'd put in the pair of clowns and wait for the cycle to complete then start adding the others.

I wont be putting all those fish in at one time. The clowns are going down stair into what was my octopus tank. The rest will slowly make their way to my new tank, if possible. The first fish to go will be the assessor followed by the fire fish then the others. I dont know if it will be possible to do it slowly as I will be disturbing the rock and sand (probably) to get them. If I can do it slowly then I will, if not well... I will do what I have to do what ever that comes out to be.

And no, I LOVE my rhoms! It took me forever to find a them lol

The tank is cycling now yay!

I have the rock and sand in and its doing its thing. While its cycling my husband is building a cabinet for me to put my extra equipment like my carbon filters and dosing pumps. I still havent set up my Genesis Renew completely. I still need to drill a hole in my trash can and connect a water hose to it so that I can drain the can with ease.

Its finally coming together.

My tank is now cycled!

For the longest time I didnt have the heater on the tank and the nitrite just wouldnt finish. Once I put the heater on it did it in 2 days!

I plan to put more food in the tank and measure nitrites to make sure its really able to handle it so probably at least a week before I start adding my fish.

I am so close! I cant believe it. I need to order a new reactor, and finish setting up the water changing system. My husband will finish the cabinet this week so I will have a place for all of my crap like the auto feeder, power plug outlets, dosing pumps etc.

I cant help but feel like I am forgetting something though. Like I needed another dosing pump for something but I just cant remember. I will have to reread my thread so that I know what I am missing.

Exciting! You will have to post pictures once complete. All this hard work will pay off and then you can start on another project.

I want to post pics but I also want to have everything set up and running and then have like 40 pics of everything nice and laid out. As for the light, I have to install something to hold it in place before I can install it. My husband is going to install something either this week or this weekend. I will have my cabinet set up then too, though I will still be waiting on other things I will be able to post most of my pictures.

The lighting was awesome! The varied shades of blue to purple to almost none was outstanding. I have to be careful with this thing, Im getting spoiled! lol

LOL My husband is building something to hang the light in my canopy today. At least I will have some update pictures. The cabinet that he built will have 2 coats of poly put on it today as well so that will be done this weekend too.

Here are some pictures of the light after being installed in the canopy. Its not on the tank yet as my husband is cooking dinner and believes its to heavy now for me to carry with out having difficulty. I will post "on tank light" pictures after dinner.
