Well, my sump started leaking and managed to dampen the stand on my 92G Corner Bowfront. As an extra special bonus, the overflow also leaked (I'm a walking Murphy's Law) and got the back corner brace wet as well.

Now the lovely partical board stand on the back and base is damp and has expanded slighting on the inside may 1/16th of an inch. Is this cause for concern? If so, what should I do.

I'm going to lightly sand the expanded areas and paint them, any recomendations on paint type?

FYI - I've already removed and fixed the problem areas, and the whole thing is drying.

Hello,

Yeah when I first got my 54g corner bow front had to much water in sump, and out goes the lights and flood city. Didn't take long before i couldn't even close the stand cabinet door. I had to sand down. And drilled a bulkhead just below the top of sump so if it happens again, will drain into 2 gallon tub I have sitting on floor between my tank and fuge.

Yeah, that was the first thing I made sure of. There is enough room in my sump to handle the water when my pump goes out. I just didn't expect multiple siliconed fittings to start leaking at the same time...
Now my imagination is running wild worrying that I am going to come home and find 92 gallons of water in my bedroom with fish flapping about because the stand collapsed.

might want to consider re-bracing interior with structural support (wood) to the stand. i would also confirm how level the tank sits, to see if there is some deflection from the particle board getting wet. do keep in mind water weights 8.34 pounds per gallon. that is a considerable amount of load.

His water could weigh even more depending on the salinity. I know that a salinity of 1.o24 weighs just over 11lbs. per gallon. I would get some 2x4 and brace that thing as fast as I could. If it swole up then there IS a weak spot in the stand now and the weight WILL bring the tank crashing down at some point in time. Why the heck do they even make particle board stands for aquariums??? Stupid companies always trying to cut corners just to increase their profit margins!

yes, do something about it before your tank cracks, or the stand cracks. if the stand shifts, bad things can happen.

Hello,

Shoot, I bump mind all the time doing cleaning, my stand has a full pc a wood at the bottom of tank just under the glass,, the only part that open is where the drains and inlets are. If top of stand was pieced together, then I would be worried.

Well, the swelling was so slight that I decided to wait until it dried and check for damage. I'm just going to lightly sand the interior and put a coat of sealant on it. As far as the weight issues go, I'd be REALLY concerned if it was on the front part since the corner bowfront design puts the majority of the weight there, not on the back. Thanks for the suggestions.
