I would check with authority first. When game fishing you have to know which fish and how many you keep. Fine can be a big deal if you get caught breaking laws that why I though same rules would apply here. Beside there are different in comercial and pleasure license. If green light is on then go collect those fish and I would like one too.

Well, I pick up one of the blennies and I think it's cool-I love it. Only catch is I don't think it is a Tessalated. The tessalated seem to be blue with lots of orange dots. The one I got is more tan with orange dots-cool fish none the less. While I'm not complaining, my point is that we should confirm that indeed these are tessalated blennies before we get upset about collecting them. I'll post a picture later of what I got and hopefully others can do the same.
No offense to Menwaylo- I would have called it a tessalated blenny too with the information I had. I'm just not sure after looking at some of the pictures.

Mine was pretty pale until he got settled into his barnacle, and he's gotten a little color back. Whatever he is, he's cute as pie and not shy about eating, that's for sure. He ignores the algae/nori and is quite aggressive about going after the mysis shrimp. For a little guy, he can sure put a lot away.

I checked the fishing guide they give you with licenses....mentions: shrimping......fishing......spearing..........but not mention of these critters or anything like them.

I think it would be on the same lines as someone catching a butterfly in a net at the park.

I can offer up my underwater digital camera (for my use only) to take some pictures of the offshore populations of blennies........

could we use this?

Were these collected close by, (i.e. the jetties)or offshore? I would like to try and get one myself, if close by that is.

Offshore at the oilrigs. Basicly he goes fishing then collects some while he is out there. Or so I have heard.

Just for the record when I collected these fish they all had a blue background with orange spots, after I had them a while in the holding tank with no light I noticed that some had lost the blue hue, I have no idea why. I will say that you(Mrlimpet) were one of the last to come and pick one up so the most colorful ones were gone. When I bring some more back I will let you know and you can get one with better color . I would like to know if the color is gone for good or will it come back after he is settled in. Let me know.

Thanks Jason

Well even if mine never colors up or if it's a different type of blenny, you can't have him back :D I tried resizing this but it's late and I'm tired so it might big a little too big for the rules 8) Irreguardless

For those of you who got blennies, did Jason's tank blow you away or what? I would KILL for that blue-green tenuis he had. He had some beautifully colored sps interspersed with low-profile soft corals like ricordea and zoanthids. It's a beautiful tank.

Nope, I put mine right in my soft-coral reef tank.

He has a great tank with some wicked looked sps. Best part is, he only lives about 15-20 mins from me :D

Menwaylo, great tank and thanks again for the blenny.

I wanted to tell everyone who got blennies thanks alot!!! For those of you that still want one, I plan to get more as soon as the weather will let me. Thanks also for the kind words on my tank, it was neat to put the face with the name. I had a lot of fun on the collection trip to galveston, I had no idea there were that many pep shrimp in Galveston. We need to do it again some time. I plan to make frags of the tenius for the november swap
