My wife came into our bedroom as I was getting ready for work today and told me the aquarium was making a funny noise. Naturally, I panicked and rushed out into the garage to see what was going on. My 45 Gallon refugium was overflowing and there was water all over the garage floor.....for a minute I couldn't figure out what was going on, because everything in the main tank looked fine....so how did all that water get into the refugium.....

Oh yeah.....I decided to top off the water last night so I stuck the tube from my RO/DI unit into the fuge and turned on the water. As I was going to the kitchen to set the timer to remind me to turn the water off, I must have gotten distracted.....so it ran all night. The strange noise my wife heard was my clip-on fan running half submerged in water.

Before this would have been a disaster, but now it's just water on the garage floor. Thank goodness for fish rooms!

drain

Well, actually, the builder couldn't put 2 and 2 together to figure out that if I want a drain installed in the garage I would probably want the floor to slope towards the drain......so actually the garage sloped towards the driveway so the water drains out there. Kind of annoying....but the drain is still very useful for waste RO/DI water, water changes, etc.

Auto Top off Float :)

Or you could get a Solenoid and one of those switch timers set it and forget it and in no time you have an oven fresh rotisserie chicken

Boudster,

Basically, it's a float switch hooked to a solenoid valve. You put the float switch in the container you are filling from the RO.

When the water level rises, it lifts the "float" and turns the switch on. That activates the solenoid valve which shuts off the water feed to your RO unit.

Hopefully that makes sense.

You have a float switch in your refuge or sump at the desired water level. I like solonids... So you would then hook up a solonid.

To wire the solonid you just run the white wire to the solonid and run the black wire to the first lead on the float switch then run the 2nd lead of the float switch to the solonid. So when the float switch completes the circuit the solonid opens and water flows.

I'm clueless when it comes to wiring and stuff....I still can't figure out how I managed to get my VHO's to work with my Workhorse7

Well you would probly be best buying a kit

I have a kit for $60 includes box, solenoid, switch for Auto, Off, Manual control and fittings to hook it up to 1/4" tubing (ice maker tubing)

Are you wanting the fuge to be as shallow as the frag tank also? Just divided off of it? Could you give me an idea of what size you are thinking about?

fuge

I'm not sure what the best design for the fuge would be...as for the size of the tank....maybe 3' long by 2' deep by 1' high.....How many gallons would that be?
