That carpet anemone (1 Viewer)

I am concerned about it now. I have old lighting (VHO wise) 440W - was planning on getting new VHOs this week. I still have 2 (250W) 14Ks as well, but I am thinking those are more for looks and the old bulbs might make it die. Hopefully not, but I keep seeing crap coming out of its mouth. Maybe that is normal, but it is making me nervous.

Yeah, they require pretty strong lighting from what I have read. I see my RBTA shrivel to nothing and come back, but they werent $60.00. I just ordered 4 VHOs so they should be coming in this week sometime and my tank will blind the neighborhood. Thanks

you know, i was a little concerned when you said that the mouth was really open. not 100% sure, but that could be a sign of something stressing it. most anemones tend to stay puckered up tightly.. then again, i can't really speak for carpets since i lack any substantial experience with one.

Like, djreef said in the other thread, what it is doing is a sign of stress. Was it doing this at the store?? Did you examine the pedal disc to see if there was any damage to it?? When they are collected in the wild, carpets are sometimes yanked from their spots which tear their disc which can lead to infection or deterioration of the animal.

As for your lights, you will need new lights. Don't try feeding your anemone again just yet, give it time to get used to the tank.

Well most of the time the mouth is puckered up, it was just that one time it was open. Do they regergitate food back out of their mouths? If so, I think that is probably what I am looking at. As for my lighting I am keeping the 250W 14Ks and I ordered 2 actinics and 2 actinic white vhos. That should be ok, I would think.
