I captured a video of these courting dances of the gobies and the sixline wrasses pair (which spawn almost every day) and the other happy couples in the tank:

That's great. Never heard of Mandarins doing this in a tank. Must be something in the air at your place....

Very cool, that girl is sure fat with eggs! If you watch them, sometimes they'll even mate twice a night. Though you have to be up very late for the second round :) Its nice when they start before lights out, mine usually wait until its completely dark and I can't get pics.

Wow didn't know they mate twice a night since the ones i saw already last about 30 mins... they kept doing it a little bit and ran somewhere else and came back to the same spot and do that dance again.. but i didn't see the female release the eggs. Maybe they'd release the eggs in their second mate when the light off to save the eggs from the predators.

One thing I forgot mention about this male mandarin - he's one tough guy! I stopped by Fishland one evening and wasn't looking for a mandarin. But I noticed this male with the long fin - which is hard to find, so I got it. Then a friend got me excited when he texted me about a poker game that night so I went to his house to play poker till late nite. Then I went straight to bed when I got home. I completely forgot about the fish until I got in my car again the next day noon and saw the bag. And to my amaze, it was still alive though not moving much. I went ahead to throw him to the main tank but had doubt that he would make it. Didn't see him for around 2-3 days.. Then I found him, but couldn't find the female. I thought he might be stressed sick after the incident and caused my female to get sick and died... But couple days later i found her with that big belly:) I have to give credit for the fish store to have put a lot of oxygen in the bag that helped the fish stay alive in the bag that long. And the mild temperature (~65F) that day helped also.

They'll do a number of false ascents before she releases her eggs. I don't think she has eggs if they mate again a few hours later, only seen mine mate a second time once because I was up really late lol. Sometimes mine dance for over an hour so you have to be patient to get the eggs, mine have always released after the lights have gone out even if they start dancing before lights out. As soon as she releases the eggs she'll head right away to her sleeping spot, the male may cruise the tank for a little while longer then go sleep as well.

I won't have the patient to collect the eggs like you Kat :). Just hope one day one of the babies will survive naturally in the tank. I know that is impossible since my sixlines pair has been spawning almost every night for a while but I didn't see any baby!
Was you able to hatch the eggs fr your mandarins?

Hatch yes, but I haven't taken the time to raise them yet, that's a difficult task and I haven't had the time. One day :)
