Went to Galveston to see if there was any peps and lo and behold the sargassum was coming in. So I nixed the pep collecting and went through the sargassum. Found 3 pipefish about 10 anglers, sargassum shrimp and also found some peps in the sargassum, I'm taken it that's how the peps are traveling in from the deeper waters to the jetties. Now for the sargassum it is not coming in very thick yet but it is a start.
Now for you folks that criticize us for collecting I only kept the shrimp and 2 of the large pipefish and 4 of the smallest anglers. Here are the pics.

Sorry, But unable to get pics to upload. Keeps saying to large of file. Tried down sizing file to a 1"x1" pic but still to big of file. I give up. I'm headed back to Galveston.

Sign up at lstwo.com and start uploading your pics. Not as cumbersome as photobucket and works with smartphones also.

My son lives in Galveston and he says the Sargassum is coming in on Bolivar. Next weekend might be a collection trip kind of weekend.

We spent the day on Bolivar yesterday. The sargassum is coming in but I didn't really look through it.

The high south winds we've been having are chopping up the sargassum pretty bad now so it's hitting the beach in small clumps. Good news is that the winds are predicted to drop by the end of the week...

good luck,
Steve

What part of galveston did you get the pipefish at?

Found them off the beach near Rain Forest where we collect peps. I was collecting at night and feel it is a much better time to go through the sargassum to collect. Went out waist to chest high in the water to collect. Its kinda of a eerie feeling out there in the dark.
Went out to San Lois pass today and found very little sargassum and collected very little.

I think I would be to chicken to go out in that water at night time.

Cool! I spent the weekend in South Padre and found a couple of softball-sized clumps of sargassum dying on the beach, but nothing in the water :(

I'll have to make a stop by Galveston soon
