Haha, that title is sure to irk a few people. It's just a teaser.

but those are A. lordhowensis. impossible to find anywhere, and individuals who have 'em only trade for other lordhowensis. :(

Nice Sherri!! I want to see one in person. Anyone have any?

By the way, what kind of fish is that staring at me? He's ready to defend his corals. :)

I have one of these in pink. I got it at Fish Ranch II a few years ago, sold as a Blastomussa. It was on an epoxy rock of three different corals, all sold as blastomussa. I knew it wasn't a blasto, but until now could never find what it actually was. I wish I had a camera so that I could post my own picture, but anyone who came to one of the frag swaps at my house has seen it.

Mine is a gorgeous pink, and altogether it is about 4" in diameter with about 8 - 10 heads. It looks similar to, but better than one of the previous pics...

Jim

p.s. The fish staring out at you in the original pic appears to be a Centropyge argi (pygmy angelfish)

How do you tell a difference between blasto's and acanthastrea? They look almost alike.

PLEASE don't let Narkon see that pic!
His drool will flood Houston.

Acanthastrea are fleshier and have larger heads. Mine can look something like a small Lobophyillia at times, when it is super extended. However, the skeleton is definitely not Lobophyllia, looking more like a large Blasto. Very cool coral, though.

Thanks Jim. Just read about them and your right.. they are all the same family with twelve subspecies including Acanthastrea from:

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/reefslides/

Thanks Sherri for sharing that. Do you know if that tank is Japanese? The reason why I say that is because of the brains to the left. Those brains look identical to japanese ones. And besides it says that they are found mostly in that area anyhow:

If you are referring to the Tracs they come from all over the Indo-Pacific.Same story on the Acanthastrea.Japan can not harvest coral or export.I bet even if the tank turns out to be in Japan that the coral came from Indonesia. :)

You need a dremel tool to cut these up. I think I'm going to let these grow out for awhile. Hey Mike, I'm still trying to catch that pbt for you.

Wow, so YOU'RE the one who scored that favia. It surely caught my eye. :)

James, I'll supply the dremel and some cash when that echinata needs to be shared. :D

The guy that owns the aquarium with all the acanths is indeed American...his website indicates he is an avowed Bush-hater, and he stated that he lives in a very pro-Kerry area. LOL http://www.jeffsabin.com

not 100% sure but judging by how difficult it is to get even 1 of those acans, i'll bet it's the same person. at least the corals in the tank appear the same. some very nice pics here. perhaps the pics are older than the one sherri posted, but there are some terrific closeups to drool over. :)
