My three stripe damselfish died this morning. Have had him in my 55 gallon aquarium since 2015. I noticed him not moving very much on Thursday evening and a bit swollen in the stomach area.
Water parameters were all within range with salinity at 1.024. Water temps is 77.2. Other fish (bicolor angelfish, powder brown tang, and older maroon clown doing fine. All fish were peaceful to each other.

I guess old age got him?

Hard to say. They can live a pretty long time - I have two yellow tail blue damsels that still look great that I've had since 2011 at the latest. Of course, who knows how old they were when we got them.

Most likely going to be ICH. When it used to get into my systems (before strict QT) I always had a fish die here and there randomly. It’s the silent killer that you don’t even know you have sometimes.

Since I’ve been keeping it out….I never loose a fish. Actually I lied…I’ve lost several small fish to my Nero Wavemaker’s.

Didn't see any flashing or notice any spots on the damsel while in the tank or after i removed him. No other fish show any symptoms of distress.
Hopefully not ich. I have not added anything to the tank in years because I had a good group of fish that got along well. The three stripe damsel
behaved well. Will keep a close eye out. Tank is a fish only with live rock.

My guess would be old age. You never how old they are already when you get them. 8 years is a long time for any fish. Some fish have a shorter life expectancy than others as well.

David,
Hopefully all will be well and not spread to other fish.
My other fish (maroon clown, bi-color angel, powder brown tang are continuing to do well and eat with no illness symptoms. Going to keep up the water changes
and hopefully all others will continue to do fine. Will update in about a week. SUP

Same here. All my remaining fish (3) have shown no ill symptoms and continue to eat as normal. I am guessing old age was the culprit.
Fingers crossed all remains well for all of us.
