How many of you run Wet/Dry sumps?

What difference does it make on your tank?
I've been running mine the entire time I've had my tank.

I have a hair algae problem and am wondering if the bioballs are causing some of it. I've been told wet/drys produce a lot of nitrates.

But my concern is what happens to everything that is being converted to nitrates in the wet/dry once it stops happening there.

sand and rock converts it, just like they do the ammiona, and nitrites.
