The Hatch Chile salsa was excellent, but this didn't smell quite as good. I did a water change right before I left, and the water change water was really warm, so the tank got up to about 82. I turned the Halides off while I was gone to let it cool down faster.

Looks like the water change combined with the change in light cycle caused my big derasa to spawn. The attached pic is what happens when the clam spawns.

Sigh. . .

Time to do another water change, change the carbon, and clean up the huge mess.

Oh my, that looks like your clam was taking a nice bubble bath...

Now you've got another "incident" to add to your collection for next time you do a MARSH presentation. LOL - but not funny. Hope all the livestock is ok...

good luck,
Steve

He he. Thanks all. This happens about every 6 months, so I know the drill by now. I usually just don't take the time to get a photo.

The clam spawn make the skimmer go nuts, thus the mess o bubbles in the sump.

Got the carbon and GFO changed, and another water change.

Fingers crossed that all will be back to normal in the AM.

Sergio - placed the order for the tank last week. 5-6 months lead time until I get it delivered. Still need to figure out the stand/canopy plans.

Felix - just send me a PM and I'll make a frag for ya.

Lee, to answer your question about feeding polyps: It's a little tough to see the coral polyps since the water gets super cloudy. I think they definitely do feed some during the spawning but I don't have any good evidence.

The fish do go nuts and eat some of the stuff that comes out of the clam. However, I think it's more the "byproduct". The clam's gills get clogged up with all the stuff in the water and it "coughs" out clumps of goo. That's what the fish eat.
