So I’m treating a few fish in quarantine with cupramine. Does top off water have to be dosed or does the cupramine stay with the salt water?

No, you don't need to redose top-off water. You only redose when you do wc

That was a great question Steve. binbinqn is right on. Just add cupramine in the right proportion to the water change amount you are doing. Do mix the cupramine in the water ahead of putting in your tank.

I am starting a 30 day QT today with some angels and using chloroquine phosphate at a rate of 50mg/gallon. My auto top off water is just plain RO/DI. I have a barrel of water for my "gallon a day" salt water changes and that water was also dosed at 50mg/gallon. That way I am maintaining the same medication level throughout the next 30 days. Nice looking copperband! I usually have one in my tank to keep the aptasia's under control. With a small file fish to gobble up mahano nems, a couple of emerald crabs or a fox face for bubble algae and a harlequin shrimp for asterinaa stars, my pests are under control. Although I have to keep finding asterina's in my sump and putting them in the main tank to keep the harlequin fed. Harlequins must be able to smell asterina's since they find them right away after I drop them in the tank.

Great input Mandarin! What do you recommend for qt'ing a wrasse? I have a rhomboid wrasse in qt now that I don't want to mess up. I have cupramine, coppersafe on hand, and CP is coming in. I've had success with TTM before, never lost a wrasse to that but I just want to see if I can get away with all the labor works

Hi binbinqn. I am not an expert on this and am following the advice of others particularly Humblefish from Reef2Reef. This is what he says about CP and wrasses"

"** Based upon anecdotal experience (mine and others), DO NOT USE CP on Anthias, Wrasses or Hippo Tangs. For the time being, chelated copper (exs. Coppersafe, Copper Power) is the best alternative to use on these species. **"

Anecdotally as well, between a buddy and I, we've had better success with chelated copper in the form of copperpower over coppersafe. We both also use CP to treat our fish but avoid using it on wrasses due to the information above that Mandarin posted.

API Copper works perfectly since it can test for both free and chelated copper.

Just don't pull a Ty and read the result from the side of the vial. For the copper test, you are instructed to look down the tube at the color chart, not from the side like some of their other tests. [emoji50]

How have you figured out the different types of copper and their relations to the species of the fish being treated, but can't figure out to unplug devices when doing electrical work? :smash:

Damnit Jim... I'm a scientist... Not an electrician!

You know too much already... Enough to make fun of me. [emoji22]

But seriously, Ty once took an online personality test that decided that of all the Spice Girls, he was most like Sporty Spice. Everyone knows she was just a regular Spice that wore windbreakers. What a phony.
