@mittens as in chemiclean for cyano bacteria?

Chemiclean is specifically designed for cyano but it’s like an ‘off use med’ for brown jelly. Such as viagra... but again, I cannot promise anything. You can think of it like a ‘inside’ trick. It was super scary for me to use the first time I med my entire tank, esp since I do NOT like adding any chemicals in the tank.

I used chemiclean once for tank with cyano... i guess I didn't change my water fast enough and it killed everything in the tank. Thats off the list of stuff I'll use unless I need a nuke. lol

So far it did not like that dip.... it pulled all the way in and hasn't come back out. Just put it in another cup to rinse off.... we'll see what happens. I wonder if it wants more flow.

That's normal for coral to retract after a dip. Just to be clear...

1) You dipped the coral with Lugol's
2) Rinsed the coral in a separate container (Preferably in two containers)
3) Put back into tank.

It will take a couple of hours or maybe until tomorrow to open up depending on what shape it is in.
In all honesty, after the dip, it will either go south very quick or it will hold up and start getting better slowly.

Get a bottle of API Melafix and from now on, dip any new softies in this. :)

It shouldn’t nuke or have adverse affects, as long as you use recommended dose. I only use this for extreme cases, such as large amount of jelly floated around before you could suction it all out and follow up with wc. If something is pissy I correct params or whatever was the cause. Allow coral to rebound. If it looks like it’s getting worse I dip in iodine. Allow to rebound. If I see minor jelly, and I mean minor, I dip in chemiclean instead. Allow rebound. If it worsens I put it in a dedicated qt surgery chemiclean, such as you would with a fish. This 100% of the time saved my mushroom.

Furan-2 is generally used more.

Thanks all! So for now it is back in the tank. I dipped, rinsed & rinsed. It is still pretty closed up, we'll see how it reacts by tomorrow.

I doubt it is BJ as I bought it out of a tank that had many many torches. I bought 2 different torches and the other opened right up. It doesn't like something in my tank, so we'll see.

PSXerholic is an expert with brown jelly disease. So if you experience that give him a pm. I’d personally dip that torch in a few products. Also contact Marco at R2R, he’s had a few issues he was able to resolve with torches.

So after the dip the other day I placed it back in the tank and it still basically the same. Any chance it wants more light?

I've placed in medium flow, no flow, low flow ( don't really have what I would call high flow... only 1 MP10 running on this small tank)

One thing I've learned is corals will survive rather well with too little light for a long time, but can die from too much light in just a couple days. So I would go slow when moving it to more light.

The coral looked pretty recessed. If it is in bad shape, don't expect the coral to heal overnight.
Torches don't like to be moved around. Let it recover. Light for them is about 150 PAR (What I learned from Tidal Gardens)

I’ve brought torches back from that in my tank. If you get desperate, I’ll house it for you and see if that helps. At a certain point, it won’t exactly hurt.

If you’re gonna borrow his frag you’ll need to return it with another head.

I’ve done that before. Took half a head and turned it into multiple heads in a few months. Euphyllia love my tank.

Then I will return my hammers to your tank and reclaim them in a few months.

That torch may have parasites inside the skeleton. I had one Acro in my tank that never would recover no matter what. It was sick in the middle and healthy on the bottom and top. Even had good PE and color. It grew, encrusted, but the middle never recovered.

It could be a nutrition or nutrient issue. Could be a missing element. Where’s you N&P currently and have you tried to Target Feed it?
