I have a MARSHian friend that I trade frags with every month or two. We don't buy from each other, we just enjoy the trade. We will trade zoas, shrooms, sps, nems, goni's, etc. After a few weeks we check in to see how the frags are doing in each others system (which are pretty different in terms of nutrients, size, and lights and if there has been any change in color, openness, size, etc. That is probably my favorite part!
Take this shroom for example in picture 1, in my DT its a very nice golden yellow color. I fragged one and traded some zoas for it. That was a few months ago.
Today he sent me a pic of the same shroom in his system. It had turned green with a yellow rim and he was noticing some bubbling (pic 2)
About 3 weeks ago I had fragged another mushroom from the same colony and put it into my frag tank. Last night I took a pic (pic 3) and noticed it was developing a lime green look, still with a yellow rim...but I noticed the beginnings of 2 bubbles, one with some orange protrusions. (Pic 3)
I enjoy having a trading relationship with a hobbyist whose system I trust, what makes it even more fun is when you get to compare the changes to the frags in the different systems.
So I guess Im wondering if anyone else has a trading relationship like this? Have you noticed differences in the corals you swap?
