20210210_183740.jpg A friend of ours gave my wife a "treemote" for our Christmas tree today. I quickly realized how beneficial this could be for my 10 gallon reef. This tank is powered by an aqua clear 70 hang on filter and I have to unplug it every time I feed to kill the flow. I am not a fan of having too much technology on my tank such as having to log into an app to turn things on and off. So having an actual push button controller for an outlet is pretty cool for me. Simple things right. Lol.

There’s a few five dollar WiFi plugs that work well with Alexa if you ever feel kinda dangerous. Cheap dependable in my experience

I have bought some in the past that worked off an app and I always had issues connecting them with the wifi. So I gave up on them lol. I feel like the guy that still carries a flip phone.

Most iot’s use 2.4ghz which can be problematic if your WiFi router only presents one name for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels. Seems a lot of them (the iot’s) don’t work well when they have to select speed in this manner.

That is exactly the problem I was having and honestly didn't want to mess with it any more than I already had.

You’re a lot more well versed than I am but I will say the majority of my WiFi, Alexa addressable stuff is 2.4 and they don’t even recognize 5.0.

I only know this because of some issues with I had with 2.4 signal strength. I went wireless with most of our light switches.

I’ve used TP-Link (Kasa) for the switches and a few reef tank items.

Love this

I had been considering using sonoff for my tank, they are extremely easy to install on just about anything and easy to use. I bought an apex so that is out the window for me.

Honestly I have been putting off setting up my Kamoer FX-STP WiFi Dosing Pump due to the 2.4ghz issue. I have a netgear orbi mesh network. I can't separate the 2.4GHZ/5GHZ radios with different ssid's on them.
