In the past, I've used different dips with varying degree of success. Never have I used a turkey baster to blast things off of my corals though I sometimes employed the help of a syringe with limited success. I surmise a baster will yield a better result for it can store more water thus creating a more powerful jet. Has anyone use a baster alone in lieu of dips? Will it knock off RB and the likes?

It's prob not strong enough to get rid of red bugs. You can use them for flatworms, but I usually used it to loosen detritus back into the water column for the skimmer to remove.

I have used a turkey baster during dips, and it does help, for example, during a 15 minutes Iodine dip, if you use the turkey baster method, suck up some of the over-iodined water, and shoot it towards the coral; I have gotten stubborn crabs to let loose of the coral and other inverts like sea stars and pods and the like, you will see them float around into the water column. Trick is to try and make sure they do not get close enough to the coral again to get back on there!

One of these days, I'm going to invent a saltwater waterpik/flosser. Hate to subject my frags thru a gazillion dip before I can place them in the DT.
