Well, I hesitated and now harbor freight is out of their 9000w predator generators. I asked the Conroe location and they said they sold out yesterday. Oh well. I wonder why they don’t carry a huge surplus this time of year.

I think I’m going to the route that @gregg went and have an electrician come and install a box where I can just plug in the generator and run the whole house. That cost difference isn’t that much and it doesn’t make sense to have thousands of dollars worth of corals and no backup electricity plan.

Having said that, I have multiple family members that live farther north with large generators. In a pinch, I can use one of theirs as they are less likely to feel the impact of the storm. So at least I have that in my pocket, but I really need a better system going forward.

Woke up this morning and got gas. Pumps were full. Then went to H-E-B and the store was full. Now the tracks turned. I’m upset. We better get some rain and cloudy weather. It’s been too hot.

You can always put the gas in your car if you don't need it. That's what I did with about 20g I had from the last storm that I didn't need.

Yeah, true that. Always good to have extra gas during these storms. My truck holds about 23-26 gallons. Not sure exactly, but to have an extra 20/G would be great. I need 4 5/G gas cans. Scepter makes a nice looking 5/G. All the rest are bulky. I wanna stack 4 together and tie them down in my bed.

I am under a mandatory evacuation as of 6A Tuesday. I figure it will be Sat before I get back in. If it is like the last majors Rita and Ike about 2 weeks before we get power back. So I will be taking a posterity picture of the reef before I leave.

oh man that sucks. sorry to hear.

Good luck and be safe. I can’t get an electrician to come over and install a darn transfer switch and I’m already frustrated, I can’t imagine the feeling of having to evacuate . 😫

I tried getting my guy to install one too, but he said he's backed up 100%. Just running extension cords for this storm and then after the storm passes and he gets a bit of time I'll have him do it.

If your not prepared at the very least you might check academy for some battery operated air pumps. In koi ponds you can add
hydrogen peroxide for oxygen wonder if if would work in reef tanks with out harming anything.

No to h202 in reef tank. While you can dose it I would imagine dosing at levels to help with o2 would be detrimental to inverts.

Well my plan was always to move everything to the schools 300. Cummins came to do some maintenance to the generator, did something wrong and caused a piston to go through the block. 15 weeks for new one so no AC no backup power all I can say is high and dry. So I am moving about 5 grand worth of new never used equipment to the school. If I have a house with a roof I may reboot if not all bets are off and there will be a big sale afterward. I am nearly 70 and have had to rebuild my house twice already. I don’t know how much juice I have left

Let’s hope for the best - I know from experience rebuilding a house takes a lot of energy.

Not too much. 2000$ worth of SPS and maybe 2500 LPS and 1500 in fish. Most of the coral from frags to colonies over 7-8 years. But I also had a goat ranch with 25000 dollars worth of livestock I had to evacuate. Now we just hold our breath. Thats life it is all a big cra& shoot come on daddy needs 7 or 11.
