BRS had it in stock about 2 weeks ago. I purchased the 44lb bag. When I received it and opened the bag, the media was much smaller than what I was expecting. I've never used it before because it was always out of stock but it seems to be much smaller than the photos I have seen online.

For all of you that have used it before, does this seem to be the normal size? Honestly, I think this could be considered coarse sand. I placed a dime on top to get an understanding of the size of the media when taking the photo. 20210116_173419.jpg

Yeah.... so since Covid They haven’t been able to get the good stuff.
Should I even bother using this?

BRS specifically states on their product page
"Two Little Fishies pre-rinses their media in RODI water, as well as manually removing any snail or clam shells before packaging."

I have plenty of shells in my bag. I was able to pick this with very little effort. 20210116_175532.jpg

I’d use it, but keep in mind that if you ever switch to the regular, larger pieces then you’ll have to tone down your reactor a little. The smaller pieces will dissolve faster. I wouldn’t worry about the shells either. Either they’ll dissolve or they won’t. At the end, you can just take them out. Or just pick them out now.

Thanks Cody!

I'm waiting on my new calcium reactor to come in from Geo's Reef. I ordered it for Black Friday and it still hasn't shipped.

I'm currently running the older style Geo's Reef calcium reactor with a much larger media.

You might have to wait a while. Acrylic has been difficult to get this past year with the rush on thin, clear acrylic sheets to make barriers for businesses. My acrylic place normally took three days after the order date to arrival on my door. However, I had to wait 6-8 weeks to get my stuff this past year, and they’re still not back to where they used to be.
