Yes, they have stichodactyla (carpet) anemones in Cozumel. I have seen them in Belize too. They will sting/eat your fish - they are not host anemones. (diff species)

The coral is growing in a barrel sponge (zestospongia (sp?))

Nice shots.

Cheers
James

Thanks, not anything like yours, but fun to take.
I've never seen these carpets before, do you have any pics you've gotten of them? I'm curious about the color.
That was a small barrel sponge, I know you've seen the ones that a full grown man can fit in! We saw a huge one on Punta Tunich, probably big enough for my wife and I :D

I've stayed all over the place, it depends on who's with us and what we're doing.
To go into town a lot, or the grocery store(Chedraui) we like Plaza Las Glorias. For the nicest, and where we got married, we love Presidente.
For cheap, we go Casa Del Mar, or La Ceiba. This time we stayed at Fiesta Americana and it was nice. It's farther South than most hotels, except the all-inclusives, so you get to the dive site faster and get to sleep a little later before the boat picks you up. It does cost more to taxi to town though. We've never stayed at an all-inclusive, because I don't drink on dive trips and can't eat enough to make it worthwhile. We also like several places in town to eat.
The coral in the barrel sponge was at about 120 feet on Santa Rosa wall, the carpet was around 80 feet on the beach side of one of the fingers at Columbia. There were more turtles this trip than ever before. 7 on one dive and at least one every day. They were very calm around people and had no concerns, so make sure no one touches them so they stay that way!

I tried google images but couldn't get any. Try Stichodactyla helianthus

FWIW, they had one at Fish Ranch the Saturday before t-giving. I hope no one bought it - fish-eating-machine.

I always dive with Caballito del Caribe. They are great. Take us where we want, let us stay as long as we want, small fast boats and no more then 6-8 divers, usually about 4-6.
There are lots of elkhorn and branching corals that are sps, at least I think they are.

I really like #224 of the anemone!
What hotel is that? Is it one of the all-inclusives? I don't recognize it.

Yeah, but a taxi ride is half an hour! But, if the food is OK, you almost don't have to go to town unless you need to shop.

:D Not me! But, I have to go to town because my wife is afflicted with shopaholicitis. We can minimize symptoms if we explore shops every night!!!!
