What is the biggest aquarium that you have upstairs in your house. I know it all depends on how your home is built how much weight it can hold but what is the biggest you have seen upstairs.

I put a 300 gallon in a guy's house upstairs. BUT, he had the architect plan for it. I wouldn't put over a 75, and then only towards a corner near supporting walls.

What size are you thinking about? This question comes up periodically in the large-reef-tank forum over on RC. It does depend on how your house is built, and where you want to put it upstairs, but most houses seem to be able to handle most of the normal tank sizes up to 180g as long as it's placed along a support wall, across as many of the floor joists as possible. Think about king-sized waterbeds. Many folks have them upstairs, they hold lots of water, and they stick out from the wall more than the way most people set up their tanks. :)
Lots of the folks over on the LRT forum are either in construction/engineering/architecture, or they've been through it and have some great info. I'd try doing a search on the forum, and if you don't find what you're looking for posting the same question there.

I have a 55 in my second story apartment. I made sure to use a custom-built stand that was too big for the tank and has a flat bottom that evenly distributes the weight across a wider area on the floor than a normal 55gallon stand would. This tank puts no more pounds per square inch than a bookcase full of books would put on the floor.

Hope this helps.
