So the concensus is that nothing will probably happen. I just dont want to put this new wet/dry sump to the tank and corrupt that as well. The tank was given to me. Anyone have a 40 gallon they want to sell or anything similar in size?

I'm not sure how much does a 40G glass tank cost? If it's cheap, i'd just buy a new tank, sand & rocks to go w/ the new sump system.. so that you won't have to ever worry about the copper thing in the future.

Otherwise, if you have some trouble w/ the reef tank later and can't figure it out and you'd probably blame it on the residue copper in that tank:)

No need to be concerned... the amount absorbed by silicon and then possibly released is less than what passes by most RO/DI systems used our municiple water supply. Besides, its a finite amount... use carbon or polyfilters for a while and whatever shows up will get removed.

One last question. If there were to be some copper coming out of the silicon, would it do it soon after adding the water and during the cycle process or could it some day just happen out of the blue like a year later? I cant figure out how to post a pic on here, but I was trying to figure out where to put this poly fiber thing in a wet/dry sump system, in the overflow? Thanks for the help. I really want to use this tank and I am sure I have nothing to worry about.

you could always just buy a small box of tests for copper, fill the tank with regular water, and test it a week later.

I guess what I am trying to figure out is first of all where to put the polypad, and second, how long should I expect to see the copper if I were to test? Would it be the first week like CPARKA said or would it be over a period of months? Thanks and sorry to be such a pain with this subject.

The BioMarine PolyFilter will turn green (if I remember correctly) as soon as it begins filtering out copper, if any is present in your system. I always just put mine in a power filter.

I really think you're over-worrying about this.
