Hi all,
Just got my new Kole Tang yesterday from FJW and he's starting to come out and feed on my tank algae which is unfortunately in an abundant amount. I know I'll have to wind up purchasing some sort of veggie sheet for him since my sea hare will eventually clean the green hair algae up but my question is, is this algae enough for him to feed on now or should I get veggies and/or flakes that he'd like? What brand does everyone use? Thanks! :D

I'm no nutrition expert, but from my experience, tank algae is not enough. My old tank has always had lots of algae, and tangs were always fat, but they always got terrible HLLE. I finally started feeding sheets of seaweed and the deterioration stopped. Unfortunately I have not been able to reverse the damage, but I think if I had fed the seaweed from the start the current tang would still look good. I use the Ocean Nutrition sea veggies with garlic extract.

Really any of the seaweed sheets found in our LFS/sponsors will be great for your tang. My tangs also go crazy for the New Era Marine Grazers. They are rings of soft food that encourages grazing like tangs do. Although mine go crazy when I put one in the tank. They don't leave it until its gone LOL! All of the New Era food is really good. I learned about this food from Moody Gardens in Galveston. They use the same feeding rings but huge 4 ft. sizes for their large fish. New Era serviced large public aquariums like Moody Gardens before getting into the small home reef aquarium business.

Most of our sponsors carry these as well.
