Could not figure out why my SPS were struggling; some dying.

While doing some routine maintenance, I found this.

I think I know the reason for the recent issues....<sigh>

And...not really sure what an "Exprise" is but I'm sure it may be related to the liquid pictured and a lack of proofreading.

The best thing about Vortech's is the ease of cleaning, pull out the wetside and go to town with a tooth brush. For all the stuff about not transferring heat and the ability to control them and blah blah I just find its easier to clean them and so I do it more.

The picture isn't so obvious.....the plastic around the magnet has split. This is rust.

One of my MP60's did the same thing. It looked like the magnet just expanded or "popped". The plastic around it was all split and the magnet itself was swollen. Not sure how to explain it but it looked like when you get particle board or sheetrock wet. Never seen a magnet do that. The sent me a free wet side pretty quickly. Just call them. I'll add though that mine didn't rust. I clean them weekly and noticed it wasn't spinning so I must have caught it right when it happened or shortly after.

I have nothing but praise for EcoTech. On the very rare occasions I've had issues, they've always been very prompt.

This post is not meant as beef against them; more of a reminder to do routine maintenance. And an "Ah Ha!" moment when tying to figure out what was going on with the tank.

I'll contact them and gladly pay for a replacement. This thing has been a trooper for many, many years.

Ah man, I should have called them, but I just thought that was just normal wear and tear. Wet side was regularly maintained too :( It didn't cause any coral issues that I noticed.

I still have that magnet as a refrigerator magnet. I guess I'll call, though I am NOT impressed with their customer service. It's just okay.
