I was woundering what most of you keep your water parameters at. I try to keep mine at a PH of 8.0 to 8.35
salinity of 1.025
alkalinity of 8 to 10 dkh
and calcium of 400 to 450
But for some reason i started getting a lot of hair algae and i am not sure why. I use a 6-stage ro/di for top off and water changes
Thanks

What brand of salt and skimmer?
How often do you feed?
Light period - how long? and how old (bulbs)
Have you tested for phosphate?
How often do you do water changes?
What's your temp?

try to cut your fish/coral feeding way back for couple weeks and do more frequent water changes to get the algea in control. Your parameters look fine. but how about nitrate?
Also try some algea eating critters like snail, hermit, etc.. I saw some huge seahares at Citipet today and some baby conches too.. these are good for hair algea.

Donald,

I'm with you... my water parms are:

Temp 82
Salinity 1.0235
PH 8.2
NH3/NH4 0.0 ppm (Ammonia)
NO3 0.0 ppm (Nitrate)
NO2 0.0 ppm (Nitrite)
Calcium 650 ppm
KH 50 mg/L (anyone have a good idea how to raise this?)
PO4 0.1 ppm
SiO2 1.0 ppm (anyone have a good idea how to lower this?)

And I'm getting a hair algae bloom.... I'm going to cut back on my photoperiod for a week or two, and cut back on my feedings to see if that helps.... Let me know if you find anything wrong that might help!

I don't know that this is the answer but I am running Phosban along with charcoal in my filter. I change it out every three weeks and do not have any problems. My MH lights are on for about six-seven hours/day and my PC lights are on for about 14 hours/day.

My boss is running Phosban in his tank as well with similar results.
