And it flushed when I plug it in...maybe it’s due to the fact that it’s not plugged in all the time?!?

1ppm where and when? If it sits for a while you will get a higher reading when you first turn it on. That is why you should flush it before use and maybe run a few gallons out. Get the gunk that creeped into the RO membrane flushed out. Should also flush when done so the RO membrane does not sit in filth that if filtered out.

Same question... If reading above 0ppm right after the membrane but higher after the DI, then just change the DI. As for color, it depends. Some have different starting colors and some aren't supposed to change.

Also, imho, .01ppm is so negligible that it could even be caused by something on the meter. Since you had 0, and now .01, if it goes to ,02 soon, then yes, time for some new media. But after flushing, etc, you may see it back at 0.

Swap the di resin first and if your still getting 1 the yes. U can measure your tds before and after the membrane and see if your rejection rate is lost... if your tds is still being reduced by 98% then I’d keep them.

what’s your tds before and after your membrane is the question?

I have dual 150 gpd membranes that I flush before and after every use. I’ve had them for at least four years now and the water coming out reads .06-.08, depending on how long the unit has been running. The longer it runs in one sitting, the cleaner the water becomes.

After that, I have two DI chambers and I will use the water until it hits .04, then it’s time to change the DI resin. I have a daily 2.5% water change system on an sps dominant tank and these water quality parameters are just fine.

Unfortunately, vertex is no longer in business. The puratek you have should automatically flush the RO membrane at each start and every 2 hours after of continued use.
The average life of an RO membrane is a few years, based on the amount of water being produced. If you start to see 1ppm tds after your Di resin, then it is almost exhausted. I would HIGHLY recommend adding a secondary Di resin cannister ( unless you are wealthy ). As Cody mentioned, NORMALLY, tds out of RO membrane are around 6ppm, so even when you start to get 1 or 2 ppm, the Di resin is still removing solids, why throw it away?? The secondary chamber will polish off the rest of the solids and then you can replace the first Di resin chamber and swap the new resin to the secondary chamber. It would also be best to check your tds after the RO membrane to see how the unit is preforming and get a baseline.

Yea the machine itself should work for some time to come and the filters etc are mostly universal...I already have a lesser quality RO system and may add in prior to the big boy in hopes to save some life on it now! Thnx!
