NOT DIAL UP FRIENDLY

Ok I got 4 new fish actually but I could not take shots of the mini perc. clowns. Camera sucks.

I got this angel, which was listed as a Large Rock Angel. Can anyone help identify it?

Also I got a shot of the niger and the niger with angel that are to big to post. Click the two links here.

I left the end of the maxijet in the shot to give you an idea of how big the two fish are. They are about the same size. Maybe 4.5 inches????

Thanks for any help and input.

Holocanthus tricolor

Rock Beauty Angel. I remember them being very sponge dependent but they stay small. You should be able to find info on the net.

Definately a Rock Beauty Angel ...max out at about 7.9 inches but much like Regal angels don't fare well...don't tend to eat well...also read that they may do well for a few months then their color darkens and they perish.... better left in the sea...I have seen them at FishLand before they are gorgeous but not suited for aquariums. Did they tell you anything about it??? You really should research a fish's needs before buying so that it has the best care possible from he start ( JMHO). Good luck and hopefully prove my findings wrong.

The salesman told me that he was a normal angel with normal angel habbits, and I should have no problem keeping him. It would appear from what I have read on the net thus far that he was pretty accurate outside of "should live a long life in an aquarium." I do not think that I have made a choice much different than what others have made in my shoes. Grabbing a nice looking fish based on the info given by the LFS. I will do some more studies, and possibly take him back for store credit.

Thanks

I did not mean to offend in any way but I have learned that most LFS employees don't give accurate info on their fish ( not intentionally usually just from inexperience or lack of knowledge about that particular species). Therefore, I think it is best to try and read up a bit before bringing it home...most LFS will hold a fish or coral for you for a few days so that really helps! It also helps that after holding onto it for a few days you can get a better idea how well and what it has been eating. They really caught my eye too! I have a reef tank though so most of the angels I really like won't work for me.

robrog gives good advice. Best to do is get a good ID source, like the Altlas by Burgess. Check the pix to get an idea of fish you might be interested in - then run to the internet for research and questions.
That way when you do see that fish in the store, you'll have a better idea of how to care for it. Scott Michaels has some real good books as well. The info is quite a bit better than in the Atlas, though it doesn't have the variety of pix.

I do not dispute that it is good advice. I just chose to pick this fish up due to the distance I live from the fish store, and the advice given to me by them. I have been looking for a good book that is conducive of easy carry, and yet has good descriptions on what to look out for. If anyone carrys a book to fish stores with you because it is a good source of info, please list the title here. I will look up the books listed above.

Is this a good one? Does it have good photo's in it?

I carry one of those. My LFS has a well worn copy that customers can consult before buying anything.
