I know that we are all reefers here; but, more often than not, we tend to get into another hobby... Photography!

So I pose this question... What camera are you using for your reef shots?! Let's hear it! Better yet, let's see it!

So, you the only guy with a camera on here, I guess. LOL

Nice cameras man! I would love to get into Nikon, but I already have Canon lenses. Just not much incentive for me to make the switch right now.

I have a Canon 70D. I'm still learning how to use it. Here's some shots from last night:

I suck at macro, but I'm still training on it...

I use a Nikon D7000. For macro, I use the 200mm Medical Nikkor lens. This lens was made in the 1970's, but it's still one of the coolest lenses ever, IMO. It has a built in ring light and can get up to 3:1 magnification.

As much as I love the above setup, I often can't get a decent macro shot through the thick aquarium glass. That's when I use an Olympus Tough TG-820, a point-and-shoot that can go in the water and avoid shooting through glass. It even has an LED for lighting macro shots.

Nice pics and nothing wrong with Canon! Nikon... canon... same diff. Just different ergonomics.

And that little Olympus E-M1 is no slouch either. :)

I also have a canon, EOS 7D though and also still learning how to use it. I have 3 lenses 70-300mm, 10-22mm and the standard 28-135mm. Every time I sit down and start learning how to shoot in manual, I get distracted forget everything and have to start all over. Thought I wanted to start a business, hubby even bought me a professional photo printer, but I just can't seem to sit still long enough to learn. I don't have tank shots (haven't figure it out) but here are some other things Iv captured

WOW!!! Not bad for "just learning!"
I've played with the 7D and the most of the Rebel series Canon's. I love them. :)

My daughter took a bunch of macro shots tonight (she's 15), with my EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens. My son took some regular shots (he's 9). It amazes me what they see when they look in the tank... what amazes me more, is how keen of an eye they have.

Here's a couple of her shots:

Not too shabby! :)

My son did these:

Those pictures are untouched/unedited, btw. :) It appears they know the camera better than I do already. LOL! Love my kids!

Thanks flip. Nice shots the kiddos took too. You are brave letting the kiddos touch ur camera. My luck mine would drop it into the tank. Looks like I'll have to invest in a macro lens. Didn't know which ones to get so we just started with the ones I listed.

Oh I also have a canon EOS mini. Hubby brought it back from Japan last time he was there. Can't read the instruction manual because it's in Japanese or order any lenses for it, but it's a nice camera for on the go

I have all kinds of crazy macro lenses that I don't know how to use. LOL Most of them are cheapies that come in kits. A professional photographer, that does a lot of reviews on YouTube, told me that for my hobby a Canon 60mm F/2.8 Macro would work wonders. I have no idea what it will do differently than my 100mm, but I may give it a whirl.

And thanks. :) My kids have been with me in this hobby since day one... I typically tell them to keep it on the tripod, but my 15 year old is pretty steady. :)

The only thing about the 60 is that it's kinda short for our purposes. I like more reach, unless your coral is right up near the glass.
90 would be the minimum I would want to use under most circumstances.
Tamron makes a great 90mm 1:1 that won't break the bank.

I have s canon 7D and the canon 60mm 2.8 and it's super sharp. The range may not be as long as the Tamron 90 but it's likely going to be sharper pics.

Have you tried both?
I don't own a canon, but I did own the Tamron used on my nikon and optically it's as good as glass that costs 3x as much.
Thom talks about it here after the 105 review... which I now own, too.

No I haven't tried both. Only read reviews. I've owned Tamron in the past but not the 90mm. One negative is the tamron focusing extends the tube. The 60mm also doubles as a good portrait lens. I was going to get the 100mm canon but for what I do it doesn't justify the cost.

So I was looking at my 70-300 lens and it says macro on it. So today I decided to try and get a few shots of my tank and they come out blurry even using a tripod. What settings should I be using? I know I really need to sit down and learn what all the settings mean and do and work with them but it seems like there is just so much and I get overwhelmed.
