I'm not sure, Nicki. I'm hoping Dennis will pipe up as he's pretty good at this stuff. I know, for me, it is pretty easy to adjust my ISO and white balance by dragging my finger across the flip out screen. I also never use auto focus but always use my 2 second timer with a remote, so I don't mess with the camera on the tripod. My x10 screw on macro won't work on my 100mm f lens either. I get the same problem. Sometimes backing up a bit helps, though.

Yeah I just backed up some and it helped. I put the camera back on full auto to see what it automatically sets itself as. I'm impatient I know it takes time to learn, but I want to know now lol. I'll wait and see if Dennis has any suggestions.

Assuming your lens is focusing correctly, blurry means one of two things... shaky camera or too slow of a shutter speed.
Since you are on the tripod, i'm guessing the latter.

Auto is not your friend, especially when shooting your tank.
Leave auto for shooting outside on sunny days.
For your tank, learn how to use your Shutter Speed, Aperture (f-stop), and ISO settings.

This is the book that helped it all make sense to me back when I was first learning.

I shoot a used $84 dollar E-pl2 micro 4/3'rds. Since 90% of my snaps are underwater, i need to factor in the risk that cameras do flood. If i had a OMD-EM5 that flooded, i would be crying for days. At this price point, i'd be OK if I had a total flood.

My favorite lens is the 9-18. I shoot the 14-42 kit lens as well from time to time.

Nikon D300s, Almost picked up the D810 but, I built a new computer instead. maybe in a year or two I'll buy a full frame.
got other things on my mind, since I don't do much shooting these days, a new camera is a want and not a need.
OK, the computer was too, LOL!

I need more lenses

Those are incredible pictures.
My wife was a professional photographer for a while until she got burned out* and realized she didn't have to do it anymore if she didn't want to. Now she just shoots family and my tank when I ask her to. I don't even try. I am good at photoshop though.
She's a Nikon user for what it's worth. I actually think her favorite lens is a 50mm 1:1 but I may be wrong about that.

*partly long editing hours with youngish children, partly dealing with flaky and strange clients, partly arguing with me at tax time about her awful bookkeeping...

Glass, glass and more glass!! I wish i could get some of the pro level lenses offered. I wish I could shoot a E-M1. Great pix felix....hard to beat a full DSLR...and the skills to boot.

Well said. Glass makes way more of an impact than a body. We have 2 5d mark ii's and a t3i for the media services we offer. I borrow my wife's lenses for this. 50mm prime 1.1 I think is the go to. It might be 1.8. I don't remember.
