my clams ( 1 crocea, 2 derasa) used to open huge, but now they are starting to slowly close up more and more as the days pass

everything else in my tank seems to be doing fine except anthellia, all my anthellia is melting away, but i kinda wanted it to go away.

anyone know what makes clams close up?

im going to check my water tomorrow and see whats the deal

Sounds bad if Anthellia is melting?
Whenever I am in doubt and I think there might be a problem I do a 25% - 40% water change and things look better than before.

The only reason a clam will close up is if it is not happy. If something in the tank is going bad like you say the anthelia then the clam is going to close up and if the clam is not helped out of this situation they will die.

Clams that are large enough to live off lighting{over 3"} have got to have the lighting for the zoo. in their mantle. So if they are not able to open they will starve. Especially T. crocea as they are the most lighting hungrey of the tridacna species.

The water must be getting foul if the clams close up. I'd do some immediate water changes and maybe even several. Maybe you could syphon some of the decaying anthelia out. Long as it's dying it's going to affect the clams.

Could anything be picking at it?? And I agree with Sue, I'd start a water change or 2. Maybe even throw some carbon in there for a few days.
