I'm building a new fuge. One part Marine pure block, the second is rolling chatoemorpha. I'm thinking the chatoe should come first then the block. Chatoe needs poop to grow. Opinions?

I would go with the marine pure simply because I can't get Chaeto to grow in my sump.

Well, it depends on your tank. If you don't have much live rock and/or have a heavy bioload the block will give bacteria a place to grow. Chato will work either way.

That was what I was thinking. My last fuge had a really hard time growing chatoe and I realized I had rock in front of the chatoe, so it seemed to take out what the chatoe needed to grow. I want to raise my bioload and feeding in this new tank.

If the rock or bioblock was doing the work of the two, then why have both? All that matters is the end result. If you're wanting to feed a lot, then the order doesn't seem to be so important to me considering that there will be enough nutrients to go around.

Excellent point. Thanks
I am picking up my porch cabinet Friday and I am going to start on the build next week.

I agree, if the Chaeto isn't growing, its because you don't need it. I have a very heavy bioload and all I use is rubble, which I assume is comparable to the marine pure block. I'd do the block and only add the macro if the block isn't enough. The block is low maintenance and you don't have to keep a light on it to make it work. Chaeto on the other hand......

I tried Chaeto one time and while the chaeto didn't grow, the coralline sure did from the light, making my sump and skimmer a pain to keep clean.
