it sure does look like a bleached GBTA based on the pic and your description of it. you have 50/50 chance with it if your water is good and you feed it regularly.

Don't see a picture of it, all that shows up is a reefcentral icon. How much was the anemone??

I bought it for 30$ at the fish store on Jones Road...

What exactly does bleeching mean? I thought it might have been dyed...

That is a Rose Bubble Tip Anenome that has been stressed and expelled part of its zooanthellae. This is commonly called "bleaching" because it is like throwing a red sock in bleach depending on how much you bleach it; the sock may turn lighter pink or it may even turn white. If you kept subjecting the sock to pure bleach it would eventually disentigrate as a stressed coral that bleaches can eventually die if you keep stressing it. The zooanthellae allows corals to use light to make food. With proper tank conditions, good flow, a decent amount of light, and most importantly regular feedings your anenome will survive and regain its color (a deep shade of red). Feed your anenome mysis shrimp, uncooked salad shrimp, or other meaty seafoods. Anenomes are not a begginer coral so if you are not prepared to meet the needs of this demanding and now malnourished animal I would return it. Hope that helps.

Oh hehe Aquatic World and their many dying corals, fishes and anemones. I live right down the street from them but i have stop buying livestocks from them a long time ago because their livestocks look HORRIBLE. I talked to the owner and their employees all the time and none of them have good knowledge on what they saying. When i first start out they told me i can do fine with NO lightning for a reef and Eheim canister filters and wet/dry are the only to go. If you look at their 37gals and 12gals eclipse on their counter and the big one in the back you can see their experiences with corals 8) And for your question a bleached anemone is a stressed out anemone that loses all of its symbiotic algae and is dying. This is caused by inedequate lightning, shipping stress, and bad water parameters which is what Aquatic World specialized in. For your best chance with the anemone i would try feeding it small pieces of sliver side or fresh uncooked shrimp everyday if it is taking food and keep your water pristine. Good luck :p

You can pay top dollar for a teeny-weeny packet of silversides from the fish store or go to Hong Kong Market and buy 5 pounds for a few bucks. Apparently people eat them.

Sherri,

Are they frozzen or dried. I go there to get dried sea weed for my tang and sea weed blennie (Cheep!!!). I have not seen silversides. Thanks for the tip. I was getting them at petsmart

They're frozen. :) Good for you for getting nori at the human market cheaply! I need to go by there too.
