So I got myself a test Kit earlier this month have not tested my tank before that. When I did it was:
Mg1600
Ca480
KH 8.5
No3 10ppm
Now I didn't think the few things that I had in the tank would consume a lot. I tested today and I am way off.
Mg160
Ca250
Kh7.8
No315ppm

Question is what should I do first? Raise the KH or Ca? Should I do a water change to bring it up safer?

Thanks

Kha is still in good range. Clearly looks like you need to dose more calc. How big is your tank?

I would test a couple more times and maybe even have a friend/store test also. typically cal doesn't drop that much with very little movement of alk.

If it truly is that low bring it up very slowly. A water change won't change it much. Use a product like BRS 2 part. Raise it the recommended amount daily until you get back to the 450 range. As you are raising it make sure to keep testing alk as well. It will drop so you will need to counter that with adding alk as well. It's a balancing game until you get back to 8.5/450.

I agree with Mark. I always test more than once if I get results that concern me. Just a thought, but the drops may have been related to a change in pH. Did you notice a large amount of CaCO3 precipitation?
