Merry Christmas to everyone! What was everyone's reefing haul this Christmas? I pretty much bought all of my own reef items except for a gift card to FJW. Below is what I scored this week!

Santa brought me an Orphek blue flashlight as seen at the MARSH Christmas party. Very cool - really brings out the fluorescence of the corals.

I got a new skimmer for my 42gl to 60gl upgrade (Thank you Grandpa!) But it had gotten broken during shipping so he has to return for a replacement. Is all good though, I won't be ready for that for at least a month because I am refinishing the stand and canopy first :)

Love those Orphek flashlights @frankc!! They really do make things pop :)

And @chrfrancis those corals are beautiful! Wish I could keep beauties like those!

Merry Christmas everyone!

@sneezebeetle It will be my first time keeping Acropora, so let's see how I do.

Those acros look great!

If you for some reason you don't have success with them, don't be discouraged. Most online vendors sell mainly mariculture frags these days, straight from the ocean and chopped up to sell frags. If you don't have success with them, try a couple local frags in town, they tend to have better survivability as they are used to tank conditions already and they have already reached their final color morphs.

These are all from WWC pretty much. So wouldn't they be used to tank conditions?

They would but nothing like 2-3 year colony in a Marshians tank or anything. The good thing about WWC versus some of the other online vendors is that they will keep colonies of some of their nicer named ones and those essentially would eventually be considered aquacultured.

In the end, if your system is capable of keeping acros, it really doesn't matter. Just over the years, I've seen the differences personally of how resistant my aquacultured pieces fare versus my maricultured pieces and its a noticeable difference over the last 6 years.

This rings true! I am done with the maricultured corals! I can keep them, although even moving past the initial brown out the color never comes back as intense as when I first got them. Other than adding variety and texture in my scape your eyes just move past them....nothing special.
