I was looking into getting a sea hare for algae control and was wondering if people could share their experiences and suggestions on care.

they are great algae eaters, but once the algae is gone, they starve and die.

they are also fairly poor shippers.

If you get a nice healthy one they do very well. I actually keep mine in a fuge so that he always has food. He has been going strong for 2 months now and he still hasn't run out of food. My wife thinks he is the ugliest thing she's ever seen but I think he's very cool.

This is my second one this year though, the first one died a few days after adding him to my tank; I think it just came down to a lot of them don't ship well.

You may want to try one of the dwarf species, although some of them aren't as effective algae eaters.

As nemo713 said (and a lot of people forget to mention), they are notorious for getting shredded in powerheads.
