That does not slime like there is a spider web floating through the water columns every water change!

Is it some sort of ORA stuff? Or the birdsnest/Valida types?

If there are diiferences in the change water and the tank water.....whether it's temp, alk.....or anything EVERY SPS out there is going to slime. SPS do not tolerate quick changes in water chemistry and sliming is how they protect themselves.

I hear you, but the green slimer I had, geesh, even if I brush up against it doing tank cleaning it releases a web of slime. My millie and other acros dont seem to do that.

So which ones has nice coloring and are easy to care for?

That's why it's called a slimer....LOL

Easiest to care for would be plating monti's and encrusting monti's. As far as acros....probable staghorns are the easiest and fastest growing.

Isnt most Stags brown with light blue tips like an Efflo? Or do they come in bright colors too?

No, "stag-horn" is simply a descriptive term for the growth pattern. There are a wide variety of different species and color variations within species that are bright and interesting.

Well Millipora is a hydrocoral or "fire coral" so I'm not sure if I'd consider it an SPS and I DEFINITELY wouldn't consider putting it in my tank :)

In my opinion the easiest are Montipora digitata - good color varieties - purple, orange/pink, and green - and grows super-fast.

My millie is growing, but it looks strange to me. I been eyeing a valida at CP for a while, just haven't had to guts to pull the trigger yet.

Got any pics Reefaddict79?

Red Digi looks brown in most pics I've seen, are you talking about the fire and ice digi?

I really don't see where this conversation is going. I'm pretty sure the common name "green slimer" has got you thinking that some acropora slimes more easily than others. I have no experience to say this is true.

Every acropora (actually every SPS) coral I have ever owned (except porites) has slimed and usually under the same conditions and that's not very often: touched by another coral, touched by something like a feeding baster, first added to the tank or dropped.

To clairify for others, Acropora millepora is not the same as Millepora alcicornis; the first is assuredly SPS (a personal favorite for sure), the second is a Hydroid.

Thanks Hank, I was kind of confused about a Millipora being related to a Fire Coral for a while there. I guess it's time to get that Valida, looks like thats a pretty good bet.

Here is my old Valida colony which I think DH now owns.

Acropora youngii absolutly slimes more than many other Acroporadae; it helps it when exposed to air for prolonged periods of time. Youngii will easily survive an hour out of the water while montiporas will have a much tougher time.

right, but sps coral available in the hobby tend to require similar care ... clean water, good calc/alk/mg/ph, strong light, etc...

Have you even stopped to asked if I have any sps currently or how they are doing?

:)
