I don't know WHAT the magic formula is. I've got a giant carpet that is enormous and won't split, but then 2 of the 50 cent sized BTAs I got from AD before Keith went out of business split about 24 hours after I brought them home.

Maybe Tom's got something on the water change idea.....

Carpets don't split they only breed sexually, some will on rare ocasion form a small clone in their mouths then spit it out. The 40% WC is a stressful event for a BTA that causes it to split to save itself. It has not worked for me yet but others swear by. Some BTAs just don't split so if you want a splitter get a split from someone. As for me I'd rather have REALLY big anenomes than a bunch of small ones but that is my opinion.
The clown hosting anenomes that regularly split are only the BTA and the Ritteri ever once in a blue moon a LTA splitts.

Don't get me wrong, I like the anemone to be LARGE, problem is, I want one of the mouths to split off so I can put the clone in my other tank for the pair of percs in there.

Don't get too excited it could be immediately or never that the percs host in a BTA because in the wild they don't host in BTAs only anenomes that are VERY hard to keep in captivity.

I've got one that looks very similar to that one. I've had it for about a year or so and it's not split.

About four or five months ago, it spit out a huge gob of what looked like green eggs. I talked with Dr.Shimek on ReefCentral and he said that it had spawned and that it won't reproduce by splitting. Maybe you've got the same species. I don't really care if it ever does or not. My Sebae clown loves it just the way it is.

Same species (E. Quadricolor = BTA) just some are near the surface where they split like crazy and others are found deeper in the water where they grow big and don't split.

I know it can split, it just won't.
It's got 3 mouthes right now.
