My purple tang has a dime-sized white patch on him today, just below his driver's side fin.

It's not like something on the surface of his body. It's more like a complete lack of pigment.

Anyone seen this before?

How should I treat it?

My puffer had the same thing on him once but it was because he got too close to my RBTA.....small water change and he was back to normal in a few days.

Not sure if it's the same thing as yours but it sounds similar.

Mine has gotten that before and it clears up in no time. I think it is either from him hitting up against a rock or another fish.

Not sure though, but when I poke at him with my feeding stick to keep him away from the Sun Corals, I sometimes whack him. He will get off color spot like that from the hit.

Hardheaded little bleepity bleep bleep.

Let's hope that's all it is. His head and lateral line disease got a lot worse a couple of months back, but I think he's healing up and it left a lot of scar tissue.

This white spot is something new for this fish though.

you never said if you have an anemone, ..

My purple tang once had that happen to it's nose, and I too atributed it to getting too close to my RBTA. Within days it was gone, with no ill effects.

I can't seem to keep an anemone happy, so I don't keep them. He must have been stung by something else.

I do have some rather large aptasia anemones in the tank that I've been too lazy to eradicate with Joe's Juice.
